In most models made between 1942 and 1957, the cowl tag is located on the Passenger side upper firewall. The tag is actually a plate that has all the information necessary on the car.
To locate the cowl tag on a 1957 Chevy you have to open the driverside passenger door. In most cases the cowl tag was attached in the door frame. It may have been painted over so you'll have to look carefully. But check the door jam for the cow tag.

You are referring to the VIN tag inside the drivers door jam, the cowl tag is in one of two places on '57 Chevys. the first design was located on the cowl toe panel, the second was under the heater control valve. Both are on the firewall under the hood. add a comment
