Answer by  Adranth (51)

Miniature schnauzers develop diabetes between the ages of seven to nine years. There is no set life span for dogs with diabetes, but they can live comfortable for several years after the diagnosis if you care for them properly. See your vet for the best care to give your dog.

As long as your dog is on medication for the diabetes and he is monitored closely his life span shouldn't be any shorter than a regular miniature schnauzer.

The average lifespan for a miniature schnauzer is between twelve and sixteen years. If you maintain proper care of this dog and make sure the diabetes condition is under control your dog could live just as long as a healthy Schnauzer would. Proper nutrition is also key in a longer life.

If the diabetes is treated and monitored then it may not have any effect on the life span of 12 to 15 years. If it is not regulated then it can cause organ damage which would cut their life span short.
