Long established rule of the sciences. I will try and state it in two different ways: #1: In any closed system mass can not be destroyed or created regardless of the chemical reaction within. #2: You can change the form of matter but in the end the product you have will always equal the mass of what you started with.

The law of conservation of mass states that the total mass of a closed system always stays the same. A system is closed if it can't give/receive energy/matter.
