My sister stole my checkbook and wrote over five thousand dollars worth of bad checks.

What your sister did is considered a felony so if she is convicted she will be given jail time and a fine.

In your state if you file a report at the police station, then it is considered a felony which could mean prison. If you want to do this then I would definitely file a report so they can get a warrant for her arrest.
