Statehood comes from Latin and was applied in Roman empire, so it wasn't the US who invented it. This term dates back to ancient times.

The concept exists since ancient times, and modern states gained shape in the second half of the 15th century. The word statehood is used most often in connection with the US, but it's not uncommon when referring to other countries as well.
