Jimmy Hoffa was the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union from 1958 to 1971, during which the Union grew to have 1.5 million members. Hoffa's tenure was marred by scandals related to his relationship with organized crime, and he spent several years in prison in the 1960s. He was released in 1971, and mysteriously disappeared four years later.

Labor unions were created to restore rights to workers who were being treated unfairly. James Hoffa was highly involved with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which is the largest union.

Women working in sweat shops organized early union in the 19th century, asking for equal wages and reasonable work hours. These women were working as weavers in the mills. Jimmy Hoffa Was the leader of the teamsters union. He had begun as a union organizer.
