Hot Rods started popping up around the early 1930's. The name originally came from the term "Hot Roadster" which meant a roaster-style car, which was modified for acceleration and top speed. The Hot Rod term appeared in LA originally, as people modified their cars to race on the dry lake beds.

The "Kustom" car movement started around the 1940's. Hot-rodders wanted fast car, other wanted cool looking ones. To make their cars stand out, they began to do things like sectioning, channeling, custom interiors, and chopping tops. This style of car would continue on up until today.

Hot rods where originally made in order to run moonshine during the days of prohibition. They mainly souped them up to be fast and outrun the law.

Custom Cars of the 1950's and 60's were known as kustom kars.. these were cars durind second world war, some of them were today even slightly modified also known as kustom kars..
