Halloween has its roots in the Celtic harvest festival of Samhain. October 31st is the final day of the Celtic calender, and they believed that on this day spirits could return from the dead. Out of fear of being attacked by evil spirits, they would leave food out in order to pacify them.

Some cultures embraced it while other cultures feared it, such as the Irish. It was known as All Hallow's Eve, where the ghosts, witches, demons and others would come out to start mischief, much why kids dress up today. In Irish cultures, they believed it bad luck to be born on Halloween.
