Like so many other great products, Cornflakes were discovered entirely by accident. John Harvey Kellogg, the head of a hospital that stressed healthy living and his brother were cooking wheat berries when they had to step out for moment. Some wheat paste had dried on the counter and became flakes and Cornflakes were born!

Cornflakes were invented in 1894 by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. He created cornflakes when he was designing foods to coincide with a strict vegetarian diet of bland foods. These types of foods were thought to inhibit sexual thoughts and feelings and discourage masturbation, which was seen as sinful by Seventh Day Adventists.

They were developed in the 1890s and have been around since then (by Kellogg of course). They have a loyal fan base and are delicious too!

There was a dr. in the 1800's with the last name Kellogg. He invented many food products, mostly grains. His food ended up becoming famous, and then his brothers came along and joined him. Now today Kellogg owns over 50 cereal brands and is one of the most popular cereal products.
