What is the etiquette regarding borrowing books?

I know not to dog-ear the pages.

If it is a hardback book, be sure to remove the cover and put it in a safe place. This will prevent you from accidentally damaging it. If it is a paperback, be sure not to bend the book unnecessarily and damage the spine. Do not underline anything, even if you are using pencil. Use sticky notes or arrows instead.

When borrowing books, ensure they are treated as you would want your own books treated by others. Keep them away from liquids and sun as these might damage them, borrow a book when you know you have time to read it so you can return it quickly, if the book does get damaged, offer to replace.
