What is the etiquette about wedding gifts?

How much are you supposed to spend?

It is best to follow their registered gift list if they have. If it cost too much, you can give gifts as a group so that everybody could pool in money for a very expensive gift on their registered gift list. In Catholic weddings, sponsors usually give around $300 to $500, and closer relatives could give higher monetary values.

The general rule of thumb is to spend on the gift approximately what the couple would spend on you as a wedding guest. For example, if they are having a formal dinner at $30 a plate and you and your significant other attend you would spend $60 on a gift.
