Although both types of lice are similar in appearance, body lice are slightly larger. Head lice depend on their host constantly while body lice can survive without its host for up to 30 days. Head lice live on human hair and body lice on clothing. Anyone can get head lice while body lice are associated with poverty and unhygienic circumstances.

To just look at the two kinds it is almost impossible to tell head from body lice. The head louse primarily stays on the head but can infest the eyebrows and eyelashes. Whereas the head louse lays its eggs at the hair shafts the body louse lays eggs usually along clothing seams. Head lice is much more common.
