What is the difference between donating something and selling it?

When you donate an item, you are giving it to another individual for no charge. When you sell a possession, you receive money for it from the transaction. The advantage of selling is you receive money. The advantage of donating is the sense of being a good citizen.

If you donate something, you get no money for it in return the way you would if you sell it. However, you can claim it for tax purposes.
