What is the difference between a full duplex and a half duplex?

A full duplex is a duplex with identical or almost identical halves of a house. In a half duplex the other half could just be a few rooms or smaller.

In the early days of speakerphones you may have encountered quite a bit of trouble hearing and communicating with people because of the sound. When you talked there was an annoying silence, that is because the early models were half duplex. Half duplex only gives you outgoing sound of the person talking. Full duplex you get conversations from both sides.
