This question isn't specific enough. What kind of oil? The density of "oils" (technically a liquid with particular colligative properties) depends on their chemical identity. Common oils usually have a density LESS than 1 g per mL (that of water). This is why many oils float on water.

Oil can refer to many substances. A substance referred to as oil can also consist of many components in a mixture. Therefore "oil" can have many densities. Crude oil for example, has a much higher density than olive oil, or mineral oil. Oil can be separated into it's individual components, each of which has a different density.
