Double happiness is a common design used in Chinese decorations. It symbolizes a coming together and is often used at weddings or parties. It is also the logo of several chinese companies.

Girl falls in love with boy going to exams. She writes 1/2 poem and gives it to him. He writes half. He takes his civil service exams and is so good he meets the emperor. The emperor quizzes him and the girl's poem is the answer. He's made an adviser, then returns to marry her; their poem is "double happiness".

A Chinese man in middle ages was once going to the Capital city to write exam to become a civil servant. But in the middle way he gets sick and falls down. A village doctor and his daughter takes him to their home and heals him. After recovery the guys passes the exam and marries doctors daughter. Hence "double happiness".
