Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes virus. It is spread through contact with another person who has herpes, either through oral sex or sexual intercourse. Herpes can not be spread by contact with a toilet seat used by an infected person. The first infection is usually the worst with less severe subsequent outbreaks.
