Throwing uppercuts can be practiced on focus mitts or muay thai pads. These require a person to hold the mitts or pads parallel to the ground and allow you to properly connect the punches at the proper angle.

You should practice uppercuts on an object that is very heavy. An item that is heavier than a head would be if it were a head. Try punching a tire with an uppercut, or something of a tires stature. Punching something bigger than what you would normally, will give you more explosion in your punch, causing more damage.

I would recommend hitting a punching bag a number of times throwing uppercuts first. Following that, practise shadow boxing throwing uppercuts, and finally, get into the ring with a sparring partner, and see how you do (get their opinion also). If successful and want to go competitive, you should be ready.

Have someone hold pads and you practice punching up. Also, if you do cross-armed bicep curls, it simulates the motion of uppercuts.

A GREAT way to practice throwing uppercuts is by using stretch bands. Take a stretch band, and place one knee above it, and "do an uppercut" with a little resistance.

You should get a punching bag and practice the technique over and over asgain. Lifting weights that bulk up your upper body will help in power as well.
