What is the best way to fix a peeling and scratched hardie board on the outside of your home?

I have hardiplank or hardi board on the outside of my house, it is peeling and has scratches on it due to weather damage.

Short of painting over the damage, which may result in an unprofessional finish, the easiest, although not necessarily the cheapest way would be to have the hardiboard replaced. This material is very difficult to repair or redecorate once it becomes worn or damaged. You may also consider replacing with an alternative material.

You can sand and repain the board. Or you can pry it up and cut a new board to size and replace.

I would get a paint scraper and scrape off all of the old paint and other finish. After that, apply primer and then outdoor paint.
