Rugs on carpet never looks good unless it matches the theme style of that room. Make sure that it fits the way you want it and it matches the themes decor in your room. Otherwise a mixed and unmatch room can be stressful or unpleasent when friends and family are over.

I think so, as long as the patterns and colours don't clash. It can add a bit of interest to a plain floor.

Absolutely. If your carpeting is patterned- use a solid rug, if your carpeting is solid, use a nice patterned rug with a border. A rug is a great way to make a space cozier, define a sitting area or dining area, and add a pop of color to the room.
