Mushrooms should be packaged in plastic wrap which has some holes in it for excess moisture to escape. They should be kept refrigerated or in a cool place. And they never should be washed under running water. Water clogs the gills and reduces the flavor.

Mushrooms should never be washed before storing. The best method for storing mushrooms is to keep them in a paper bag in the refrigerator. You will want to change the bag every 3-4 days.
