The best laptop computer for the price is usually a Lenovo. Lenovo's are made of quality components and use metal cases rather than some of the plastic cases other manufacturers use. I have owned two IBM/Lenovo laptops for 6 years and have no problems with either of them hardware wise. As long ans you take care of them, they last.

Depends on your needs and amount able to spend. I look for durability, reliability, not too heavy but still powerful enough. I also value a support page with easy access to the latest drivers. Personally am fond of Dell Latitude series and currently own a Latitude D630.
