The best kind of pot for plants is one with a hole in the bottom to allow for drainage. Most plants need space for the roots to grow, so a deep pot is best. If you were planting cacti, a shallower pot is best. Once you have a hole and the correct depth, choose a pot that suits your tastes.

I prefer terra cotta since they breathe and are inexpensive; durable; can be painted or decorated; or they can be set inside a decorative pot and removed for cleaning.

For growing a good healthy plant you will want a pot that is hard to knock over (Ceramic is the sturdiest) and that has holes in the bottom for good drainage.

Plastic pots are durable, shatter proof which keep the soil from drying out. Clay/Terracotta pots have. Self Watering pots reservoir at the bottom and wicking fabric that draws the water up to the roots. The other has a built in reservoir with an external opening to add water.
