The Montessori philosophy is an approach to educating children with a few things in mind about children, such as: they are curious, learn with all their senses, auto-educate and they learn by personal interest. Also, the learning area should be orderly and focused. Also, they should be allowed to repeat activities until they master them.

The basic philosophy of a Montessori school is giving children the freedom to "discover" at their own pace. Having observed a Montessori school for about a week I can tell you that activities are not structured in the traditional sense, but multiple activities are presented and suggested at one time. Teachers circulate and guide student learning.

The Montessori approach takes advantage of the natural development of a child. It assumes that children have a desire to work and learn and creates an environment in which all children can succeed. Teachers create activities that get the children excited about their work and then act as guides s the students go through the tasks at hand.

Montessori is more of a method than a philosophy. It is thought to be following the laws of nature to bring about the true nature of the being.

Montessori philosophy began with an Italian educator. I don't know all details, but most Montessori schools have children of different ages and levels. I believe that the Montessori teachers try to provide challenges based on eash child's level rather than a set lesson-plan per age/grade.

Montessori philosophy is that every child should be able to do what they want. Children move from different stations around the class when they please.

Montessori schools generally are child centered educational institutions. They believe in creativity and playing by learning. Additionally, Montessori schools emphasize teaching children different subjects by responding to the child's natural interest and curiosity in those things. They are not generally very structured programs, and they include a lot of movement.
