Depending on how old the house is, it's size and construction type change the weight range. Plaster instead of drywall or terracotta tiles on a roof change the weight dramatically. Items like a jetted tub or granite counter tops are much heavier than their less expensive counterparts as well so figuring an average weight is nearly impossible.
7. 2 million pounds for 3600 sf sounds way high for residential construction add a comment
Are you sure, it sounds way heavier than it should be add a comment
that is not correct. by scientist who works at UCLA add a comment
Doesn't pass the sanity check since houses have a lot of empty space. Besides, this equates to about 7 cents per pound of building material - not likely. Other sources show an average house to be about 120000 pounds. add a comment
Lead weighs 710 lbs per cu ft. 2000 lbs per sq ft equates to 2.82 ft thick layer of lead. Not right. 50 or 60 lbs per sq ft is more likely and more in line with building materials. add a comment
WAY too high an estimate. add a comment

A 10-by-10-foot wood shed with a double door, an extra walk-in door and two windows weighs about 1,235 pounds as a ready-made kit. 12.35 lbs/ft2. 24,700 lbs for a 2,000 sf home of similar construction. add a comment
