The Allen card test is a test given to preschools to determine how far away they can stand from a card with a picture and know what the picture is.

An opthamologist uses 4 flash cards with 7 different figures, called Allen cards, to check children's eyes. Starting about 2 feet away from the child, he asks the child to identify the figures. Stepping back a few feet each time, he records the answers to determine the child's visual accuracy.
