Strep type c is similar to type A but it is more uncommon in humans. It is originally transmitted from animals, and many people can culture positive for strep type c and all that means is that they are either pet owners or have been in contact with a pet; they don't get ill.

May I ask where you got this information? I was called out of a meeting at work w/my Dr. warning me to go home asap as I had infectious Strep C. Are you a reputable Dr. as well? p.S. I do not have/am never around pets.  add a comment

Strep type C is different from regular strep which is Strep type A. Type A strep is usually found in humans while Type C usually is found in animals. Basically strep C is an infection usually in the throat or even the genitalia of humans and can occasionally be serious. Treatment is with antibiotics.

I have C-strep, it was negative on quicktests but positive in culture. Symptoms are MUCH worse than type A. Most likely got it from working at the animal shelter. Great to know that in the future as a veterinarian I'll most likely be getting this strain of strep... not.

Streptococcol Pharyngitis type C is a bacteria that is usually common in animals, and uncommon in humans. Strep Type A is commonly found in humans, although strep type c can be found amongst pet owners. The name is the only difference in these two streps. Both will Eventually go away without antibiotics.

just saying, strep a, b, and c are bacteria. bacteria will keep growing unless treated by antibiotics. viruses will go away on their own!! everything else i agree with...  add a comment

Bacterial infections can go away on their own, as well. Just like viruses, some can kill you and some don't.  add a comment

I was just diagnosed with strep c and I am not a pet owner and have not come in contact with any pets, so I believe anyone can this and it must be transmitted via human contact as well, unless it came from meat OI ate.

Strep throat types A and B are both types that affect humans, whereas normally type C is usually the type caught by horses, cattle, and other wild and domestic animals. In most mammals, which I assume includes humans, it causes infection. It can be dangerous if left untreated, but then again most things are.

Strep type c is usually found in animals instead of humans. generally cats or dogs. That is the main difference. Must be a pet owner. I believe treatment is the same.

Streptococcal pharyngitis type c is usually advocated for animals. It is uncommon in humans. Hence I doubt about your friend;s condition.

I believe your friend has it because I was just diagnosed with it! I have no pets or contact with animals.  add a comment

I just got off the phone 10 min ago (which is why I'm googling it) with our clinic for my 16 year old sons results. He is positive for Strep Type C. So, very possible in humans!!!  add a comment

Wow, someone like me out there. I am also 39 and have been prone to strep all of my life. 9/10 times that I get sick, it's strep, and it's never strep A. I currently have strep C once again...  add a comment
