Strep can be dangerous if not properly treated. Do what your doctor says but do not be afraid to ask all the questions you need to until you feel satisfied.

As a parent, you have every right to know what it going on and it is up to the healthcare professionals to answer your questions. Strep in the urine is not common. Antibiotics will be involved, but it is necessary to determine the source of the infection. Ask questions.

To treat an 18 month old with strep in the urinary tract, cultures are first obtained, an antibiotic thought to be affective is started via I. V. and then it is switched, if necessary, after 24 hours, based on the results of the cultures taken before treatment began.

If your child had strep in his urine it means that he has an infection. Normally strep is treated with an antibiotic. If your child's fever is high or he is suffering from other issues such as a high fever or dehydration other precautions may be taken.

If your toddler has other symptoms along with the positive test, the doctor may want the child hospitalized: the child looks or acts very sick, has a hard time swallowing fluids or saliva, difficulty breathing, a temperature over 105, and signs of severe dehydration.
