A diprotic acid is one that has two hydrogen atoms such as H2SO4. They are unique in that they can produce both normal and acid salts.

These acids have two protons, also known as hydrogen ions, instead of the usual one. It usually requires more energy to remove the second hydrogen, however, because once the first hydrogen is removed, the remaining part of the acid becomes negative.

The definition of an acid is any compound that can give up a hydrogen ion=H+=proton into a solution. A diprotic acid is any acid that can give up exactly two of these hydrogen ions. The classic example of this is H2SO4 sulfuric acid which can disassociate into H+ H+ and SO4 2-.
