Smart casual is designer jeans with a shirt, belt and all the right accessories accenting color. For a man it is designer jeans a polo shirt and a jacket with the right shoes and jewlery. For a woman it is designer jeans and everything else to look sophisticated.

In my opinion, smart casual is dressing up without actually wearing a dress or a suit. For example; a man wearing a pair of khaki slacks and a nice polo or button up shirt with a nice pair of shoes, and a woman; a nice pair of jeans, a nice sweater and a pair of flats would be smart casual.

Smart casual means you look put together, but not too formal and dressy. This might include slacks, button down shirts, or dress shoes for men, but not a full suit. For women this might be slacks or a dress or a skirt with a blouse. I believe smart casual can include jeans, but they must be nice jeans.

Smart casual to me would be black dress slacks and a pretty sweater or fitted blouse for a woman to be worn with trouser socks along with a pair with flats or ankle boots. A man should wear dress slacks along with a buttoned down collared shirt and a sport coat. Loafers and dress socks would complete the outfit.
