What is a dressy casual dress code?

I start a new job next week that has a dressy casual dress code.

I would interprent that as you should not be wearing jeans, but you don't need to wear full suits either. For a women, you should look into wearing skirts and tops, and dress slacks. For men try finding a couple good pairs of chinos and button downs, but you won't need a tie.

I would think this means business casual meaning khaki pants with a button up are appropriate. This means, to me, that it is acceptable to go without a tie.

Dressy casual is something you would see yourself wearing to church, not a t-shirt and jeans but maybe a nice blouse or button down shirt.

If you are a man, slack, a shirt with a collar, no tie, clean shoes, no sandals, clean hair, clean face. If you are a woman there's a bit more leeway, but the same basics apply. You're at work, not the park. Some offices forbid open toed shoes. Ask around.

Sparkling clean, neat (pressed) and tidy (nothing frayed or stained) are keys. Gentlemen: Polo shirts, belt, leather shoes. Ladies: Skirts, Slacks or Capris with nice blouses and comfortable, nice shoes.

While you don't have to wear a suit/tie, jeans are too casual. Go for the "Eddie Bauer (preppy) look". It's okay to call ahead to your HR department for clarification.

It means dress in a professional manner, like nice slacks, skirts or dresses, but you do not need to wear a full suit.
