It is semi-synthetic fiber. Also it is known under the names of viscose rayon and art silk, which you probably have encountered it too. It is widely used in the textile industry but also finds uses in feminie hygiene, yarn and for producing diapers or towels. Rayon fabrics are smooth, soft, cool and comfortable.

Rayon is a fiber that's made from cellulose. Cellulose is basically plant fiber. It's a less expensive alternative to cotton but it is weak when wet. Most garments are handwash.
