Psoriatic arthritis is a combination of two conditions where the body attacks itself. Psoriasis is a condition where your skin creates layer upon layer of skin cells, usually with the intention of protecting a damaged area (elbows, knees, knuckles) but the skin overreacts and causes 'plaques'. Arthritis is a condition where the joints are inflamed and damaged, and are painful.
