What is one advantage of using commercial bases for stock?

The main advantage of commercial stock over homemade is how quickly it is available and consistent in quality. If you have to prepare homemade stock, it takes a great deal of time and requires special handling and storage space. Having a dry or shelf-stable product you can just add to your recipe simplifies cooking a great deal.

A commercially-prepared stock is pre-seasoned. Because it is ready-made it is not necessary to do more than simply measure it and add it to the recipe.
