Niacin is a health food additive that has been discovered to help with energy and alertness. Additionally it has been found to have a additive effect to folks taking anti-cholerstal medicine. It is not good for dogs because it effects there heart rate

Niacin is vitamin B3. Used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. It is a water soluble vitamin. It is essential for normal function of the nervous system. The toxic dose for dogs is about 5000 milligrams per 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of body weight.
