This book tracks the life of a Korean-American Henry, who, although completely assimlated struggles with that last "becoming and American", because although Henry wants to be part of the USA, he can't get to grips with losing his cultural identity, and come to terms with losing his language, culture and belief system.

Native Speaker by Chang Rae Lee is about a Korean American industrial spy. The novel focuses on themes of alienation and betrayal which first generation immigrants feel and which are played out in politics.
