Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of brain and spinal cord. The fatty myelin sheaths around axons of brain and spinal cord are damaged leading to demyelination and scarring. MS affects the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other. This usually occurs in young adults due to genetics, infection or environmental factors.

MS is the abbreviation for Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder in which the body mistakenly attacks the myelin (the "insulation" that covers nerves). This de-myelinization causes a host of problems related to nerve function, including muscle weakness, balance problems, numbness, pain, cognitive impairment, impaired reflexes, and troubles with coordination. MS is treatable but not curable at this time.
