A jeweler uses and hand held device to solder jewelry pieces together. You can buy a kit and do this at home yourself. Just be very careful because it is combustible and the equipment gets hot. Heat is applied to jewelry to allow the metal to flow and bond together. The jewelry melts and run together.

Gold of any karat can not be adequatly soldered with a soldering iron. A jeweler will use a torch that produces enough heat to actually fuse the pieces. Solder of the appropriate color and karat will be used so the seam is nearly invisible. Take the ring in several places, have it check and ask for an estimate.

Gold melts at a fairly high temperature so you would probably need to have a white gold solder line to fix it.
