You may not contact the judge unless you are representing yourself, in which case, you may only meet with him/her in the presence of the other attorney. The judge does not serve to give information about the case, but only to hear the case and render a decision.

Any time you are involved in a legal proceeding, it is illegal to contact any party associated with the proceedings. You cannot legally contact a judge or lawyer on the opposite side (you may contact your own laywer) to discuss the family law case that you are involved in. Outside contact could be misinterpretted by anyone reviewing the case.

Contacting the judge directly outside of court could be seen as attempting to influence the case. This is not wise. If you need information, send a letter to his secretary.
