car repairs

Question by  laksumikarthikgmailcom (16)

What is involved in replacing a Buick Century air conditioner pressure switch?

I'd like instructions on how to do this myself, as it's less expensive than the dealership. The car is a 1996 model.

You will have to drain the a/c system legally you have to have a recovery machine so it is best to take it to a shop.

I believe it is screwed onto the side of the receiver/dryer unit. It has a two-wire electrical connector and if replacing the switch, use a new o-ring lubricated with ester oil. Remove it, reseat the o-ring, and screw it back on and it will no longer leak.

You're going to need a few things. A high tension pressure valve, a bottle of freon (Preferred one that is for your particular car model) and some basic tools. screwdrivers etc.

Considering it has to do with a sensor you really should have the garage do it they have the proper tools for the job as well as the training but if you must do it yourself call a dealership and have them tell you what you need to do.

Well, to replace the air conditioner switch, you have to take away the switch by uninstalling it. To uninstall it you have to make sure that you get all the wiring out of the way. Then you want to find the replacement and adjust the wires accordingly. It is a hard task to be honest.

It is screwed onto the side of the receiver/dryer unit. It has a two-wire electrical connector to replace switch use a new o-ring lubricated with oil. After you screw the new switch on, it will probably leak. Remove it, reset the o-ring, and screw it on.
