"Grassroots" or "roots" music is the music created by musicians who have no formal musical training. In the US roots music might include Old Time Appalachian music, Cajun music, Creole music, blues. You can find collections of this kind of music in the Smithsonian and in other libraries of field recordings.

the grassroots were a u.s. rock band in the late 1960's. They actually started their own genre of music for the modern world. Mostly played at festivals.

Grass roots music is music which arises regionally and locally amongst musicians that share a common concern.It can have several different focuses , from political , social , or leisure sources. Grassroots music can grow and spread throught out neighboring communities and areas becoming more refined and developed ,and can include a hybrid of styles.
