Gothic architecture is best represented by the Gothic arch-- also known as the 3-point arch. This arch will have a point at the top and will not be rounded. These arches are very tall, so they were buttressed with additional arches called flying buttresses. It originated in 12th century France.

The Gothic style began in medieval France, and soon became popular throughout Europe. It still influences many churches and universities built today. Stone buildings with buttresses, arches and spires are characteristic of the style.

Gothic architecture is best explained with pictures, so try searching for images. It is heavy and dark, with lots of details; there are specific types of goth columns as well, and a sure sign of a gothic building is ornate detail and lots and lots of buttresses that serve as supports.
