It's more than likely that your problem is the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Either one can be easily diagnosed with a scan tool.

If your car is automatically revving to 4000 rpm you could have an air leak or your throttle cable could be damaged and sticking.
