The best thing is a LONG walk beforehand and a nice meal. This should make your dog so tired that he will want to sleep most of the way there.

A tranquilizer may be needed to keep him calm and prevent vomiting. There are some over the counter remedies that may be used, but ask veterinarian about dosages.

I highly recommend giving your dog ginger. It helps settle its stomach. The other thing you should do is go to a store that sells herbal supplements. There's a product called "Rescue Remedy" that helps calm animals down. I use it with my animals, and it's very effective.

Dogs can take Benedryl. If the dog is small, only give him a half of a pill. If he's big, a whole pill might work. It will make him a little drowsy like it does to humans.
