What is crochet?

And is it crochet or crocheting?

Answer by  Anita27 (656)

Crochet, or crocheting involves using one needle with a hook on the end to wrap yarn around itself to make something. Common crochet items are scarves and sweaters, but more creative crocheters can make things like decorative flowers.

Crochet is a centuries old tradition of creating a fabric from yarn to be used in creating clothing, bed covers, and furniture accents. Although relatively close to knitting crocheting, unlike knitting, uses a stemmed hook as opposed to two pointed needles to work the yarn into a usable or decorative product from a simple to more elaborate chain stitch.

Crochet is a needlework technique that uses a hook to loop yarn together to form finished items. The noun and adjective is crochet, the verb is crocheting (I made a crochet sweater, I am crocheting a sweater). Crochet hooks come in different sizes, which results in a looser or tighter woven pattern.
