Usually this refers to dosage calculation and drug preparation, but in more involved circumstances, this may deal with blood gasses and other calculations having to do with body chemistry.

A patient who is critically ill may experience rapid hemodynamic change, hence the nurse looking after such patients should knowledge of medicines administered and effect of this medicines on vital signs. Thus these patients are on multiple drugs infusion running at the same time and hence nurse should know drug administration and drug calculation. This is critical care math for nurses.

Working in a hospital that too in the Intensive Care Unit is the critical job for nurses since they have to take utmost care of the patient all the time.
