What is cool for teens?

Cool is a really abstract term. It is the perception of what is socially acceptable to the heard of teenagers at their school. They think that having the new sneakers or the newest cell phone will make them more accepted or that looking or acting a certain way will help them make more friends.

Being able to make your own decisions about increasingly important issues is cool. Not having to report to anyone is cool. Things that parents don't understand or things that make parents mad -definitely cool. Having your own money and transportaion is cool. Most of all, cool is what the other teens say it is.

It depends on the age and especially the gender. Cell phones with texting features are cool, as well as MySpace and FaceBook. Twitter is also becoming popular.

Many activities that are cool for teens include joining some after school clubs, like Drama Club! It's easy to meet other people that way and make friendships that last for a long time!
