What is checked for in a federal background check?

They look to see if you have any outstanding warrants, subsersive actions against others or the country, any terrorist activities, and any fraud charges.

Federal background checks vary by clearance sought. It is not uncommon for former neighbors, teachers and employers to be interviewed, for family members to be investigated. Credit checks all around.

They will be checking for any criminal records outstanding or you may have, any aliases you may have used and credit check to look for fraud or embezzlement.
