He worked in advertising as a Junior Copywriter. He also worked in the IT business doing statistical analysis and data reconfiguration. His friends never seemed to know what he did for a living attributing to several classic moments in the show.
He used to do something in a big building, but neither of the other Friends knows what his job was. Around season 8, he changed his profession to advertising area.
