Autologous blood means blood that is kept or reserved specifically for the donor themselves, such as surgery that requires a transfusion. It's easier to use the patient's own blood.

This is a term that describes the patient's own blood. When you donate blood and store it so that you can receive your own blood for any future blood transfusions.

It is blood that is lost by a patient during surgery and reused in that patient. It is also known as intraoperative blood salvage.

Sometimes, before scheduled surgery, patients will have their own blood saved for transfusion. This practice is called an "autologous blood donation." The advantage of autologous blood is that it is guaranteed to match the recipient's blood, and that is will not carry any diseases the recipient does not already have.
